Some days, I’m the windshield, cruising through the day, brushing aside any adversity I encounter. I am cool! I am the breeze! My kid laughs at my jokes. I laugh at his. The clients were satisfied with everything I sent them on the first go-round. Everyone liked the dinner I had planned. It’s bliss.
Some days….I’m the bug….and the whole world is a windshield.
Some days it’s just one big splat after another. Math goes into negative territory (and I’m not talking number lines) and tempers flare. Clients seems bent on driving me up the wall with minute edits and changes that won’t matter a hill of beans in the long run. And, despite telling myself to keep my cool (cool! remember….I am the breeze!!!), here I sit, blasted in the face with what an utter disaster I am as a parent, teacher, business person, and human being.
Seriously.
Today was one of those “I am the bug” days. And what’s so horribly ironic is the fact that last night, just before going to sleep, my husband, Rich, and and I talked about how great the day had been….and wouldn’t it be great if every day could be as great as today was.
Yeah, if only!
So what happens next when I’m the bug?
I do my own personal take on that meme that says, ” Women are angels. And when someone breaks our wings, we simply continue to fly on our broomstick. We’re flexible like that.”
When it’s a bad day, apologize. Say you’re sorry and then move on. Make it a habit, not to be perfect, but to practice forgiveness and get on with life. .
So today on our drive to the rink for his ice skating lesson, my broken wings tucked into the seat behind me, I apologized….and he did the same. As we turned out of our driveway, he said, “Oh don’t worry about it. It’s all in the past, and we don’t have to think about it again. We’re headed to the rink, and it’s going to be a great day.”
Just as simple as that. I put my broomstick in gear and away we went.
Because people, it’s important to be flexible like that.
