Each year as February rolls around my teacher friends — homeschool moms and regular classroom teachers alike — talk about the February Blues.
This year, after a January filled with major snowfalls and record breaking cold snaps, it seems like everyone is more than ready for spring.
But while it may be sunny and 60 degrees as I write this on Superbowl Sunday, February is tricky. We may get hints of spring, but regardless of the groundhog’s predicting an early spring, there’s still plenty of winter weather that lies ahead.
That’s where the winter doldrums set in.
To combat the February blues, I make a point of keeping an eye on the sky . From the beginning of the month to the end four weeks later, the sun heads north, and we are gaining light, around an hour of sunlight each day, approximately 1/2 an hour in the morning and another 1/2 an hour in the evening.
Even towns in the far north that have endured a long polar night since long before the Winter Solstice are seeing the sun’s return. So get out and enjoy that sunshine every chance you get.
Go, sun, go!!
Head outside and turn your face to the midday sun. If it’s a warm day maybe even ditch the coat. Take note of the sunrise (you don’t even have to be up particularly early to catch it!), and soak up the sunsets, too.

Plus, I’ve got a special deal for you to push the February blues aside and add a burst of joy to your month.
This week the eBook version of This Day’s Joy is on sale for only 99¢. So pop over to Amazon or your favorite online book retailer (iTunes, Barnes & Noble, or Kobo) and pick up a copy.
I’m already scheduling dates for Finding This Day’s Joy presentations and workshops into the fall, but I still have a few dates open for the spring and summer.
Just email gina@ginaprosch.com to check on availability if you’d like to schedule something in your area.
